In addition to the many scientists funded by the Center, the Center for IPM has over 20 individuals located at the Center office, and at other locations on the NCSU campus.

Director

Tom Melton is a plant pathologist well versed in IPM. He has served as Professor and Department Extension Leader in Plant Pathology. Associate/Assistant Directors

Jim VanKirk is a Program Manager and Associate Director at the Center. He is Director of the Southern Region IPM Centerand current Chair of the ipmPIPE Steering Committee. He can be reached via email



Karl Suiter is a Program Manager and Associate Director for Biosecurity Applications at the Center. He is Project Manager for APHIS-funded projects to develop appplications involving online secure database access. Karl has a staff of 8 Research Assistants and 6 Programmers. Yulu Xia is Assistant Director for International Programs and Senior Researcher at the Center. His major responsibility is management and development of Center's international programs. Yulu is a PI of a number of projects funded by such as USAID and NSF. Yulu can be reached via email



Ron Stinner served as Director of the Center from 1993 through June, 2008, but is now on Phased Retirement. He is Professor Emeritus of Entomology and Biomathematics. Ron has been at NCSU since 1971, with a research emphasis on IPM, international pest information, biosecurity and internet information dissemination. Assistant Director of the Southern Region IPM Center

Stephen J. Toth, Jr. serves as Coordinator for the Pesticides, Alternatives and FQPA Program for the Center and maintains the national Crop Profile and Pest Management Strategic Plan databases. He is an Extension Entomologist at North Carolina State University, where he has been a member of the Entomology Department faculty since 1988. In 2003, Steve assumed duties as Associate Director of the Southern Region Integrated Pest Management Center at NCSU, and in April 2008, was appointed State IPM Coordinator for the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service. His interests include the development and distribution of educational materials and programs relating to integrated pest management and pesticide regulation, use and safety.



Administrative Assistant

Jo-Anne Scoggins keeps the Center running with her organizational skills. She is the main contact for questions regarding proposals and contracts. Jo-Anne has a B.S. in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management. Her backgound and pleasant personality keep the front office operating smoothly. Bookkeeper

Writer/Editor

Rosemary Hallberg writes, edits, and designs the quarterly newsletters; copy-edits all reports; prepares press releases and success stories for public release; compiles Center updates and handouts for various meetings; and is responsible for the news section of the website. She is also responsible for developing positive relationships with agricultural and environmental news reporters. She is certified in environmental education. Internet Applications Team

Alan Surrette is the Network Administrator for the Center. He started here in November of 2008. Included in almost 10 years of IT support experience are stints at Duke, the Asheville City Schools, and a consulting firm. Having attended NCSU many years ago, he knew that he would some day return. Alex Belskis is a Business & Technology Applications Analyst. He is developing and maintaining several secure USDA/APHIS applications.



Mike Shilling is a Business & Technology Applications Analyst. He is developing and maintaining several secure USDA/APHIS applications.



Sandy Sferrazza is a Business & Technology Applications Analyst. Sandy is using her background in programming to help the Center develop and maintain several secure USDA/APHIS applications. Sandy holds a BS in Interior Design and continues to pursue educational credits to accelerate her career goals.



Michael Clayton is a 3/4-time Business & Technology Applications Analyst. He is developing and maintaining several secure USDA/CPHST applications. He is also earning a bachelor's degree in Computer Science at NCSU.



Sheila Hatcher is a Business & Technology Applications Analyst with CIPM. She works in developing and maintaining USDA secured web applications. Sheila holds a BS in Computer Science and joined the Center in July of 2009.



Eva Zurek works in the Center as a half-time Research Assistant and webmaster. She is responsible for numerous projects involving CIPM member organizations. She can be contacted via email.



Global Pest and Disease Database Content Team

Teri Bacheler Hodorowicz is a Research Assistant for CIPM and serves as the project coordinator and team lead for the Global Pest and Disease Database (GPDD). The GPDD is a secure online database storing scientific information about exotic pests of concern to USDA-APHIS. Teri has a BS in Zoology and has been with the Center since the GPDD's inception in 2003.



Tracy Shivone is a Research Assistant and content developer for the Global Pest and Disease Database, a secure online application for USDA APHIS. Tracy holds a MS in Entomology.



Carol Hicks is a Research Assistant and content developer for the Global Pest and Disease Database, a secure online application for USDA APHIS. Carol has a BS in Horticulture and a MS in Entomology from LSU. In her spare time, Carol enjoys volunteering at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences.



Melinda Gibbs is a Research Assistant and content developer for the Global Pest and Disease Database, a secure online application for USDA APHIS. Melinda has a BS in Biology and a MS in Entomology with a background in biological control. Melinda is currently working part-time for the Center.



Biosecurity and Risk Assessment Team

Jennifer Fritz is a Research Assistant for the Exotic Pest Information Collection and Analysis project, which provides groups within USDA’s Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) with regular updates about exotic plant pests that potentially threaten U.S. agriculture.



Leah Floyd is a Research Assistant for the Exotic Pest Information Collection and Analysis project, which provides groups within USDA’s Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) with regular updates about exotic plant pests that potentially threaten U.S. agriculture.



Jessie Moan is a Research Assistant for the Exotic Pest Information Collection and Analysis project, which provides groups within USDA's Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) with regular updates about exotic plant pests that potentially threaten U.S. agriculture. She has a BS in Forestry and an MS in Entomology.



CIPM and USDA/APHIS/CPHST

CIPM has developed a close working relationship with USDA/APHIS Center for Plant Health Science and Technology, working on web-related activities, as well as risk assessment issues. Through cooperative agreements, CIPM has staff that work closely with CPHST personnel. These individuals include:
