CIPM has a number of ongoing international cooperative research, development, and service projects.
These projects generally fall into one or more of the following three areas:
Pest Information Management, Sharing, and Delivery. CIPM is a global leader in agricultural pest information management and delivery. During the last several years, the Center has developed and/or maintained online a number of pest information databases and information
systems such as the USDA/APHIS Global Pest and Disease Database, a Pest Management Technology Database, and US Crop Profiles and Pest Management Strategic Plans.
Agricultural Information Infrastructure Development. The Center is working with a number of host countries and regions in building information infrastructure for managing agricultural pest information. These programs include countries in East and West Africa,
Southeast Asia and the Pacific rim, the Caribbean, and Central/South America. These programs are supported by the USDA (APHIS,FAS, RMA), U.S. Agency for International Aid (USAID) / IPM CRSP (managed by Virginia Tech), and CIPM member and core funding.
Fostering International Cooperation. CIPM works with government agencies, academic institutions,
and non-profit organizations to foster international cooperation in the areas of invasive species, pest information sharing,
and applied pest management research. For example, in 2006 CIPM co-hosted a forum on US-Sino Invasive Species, in collaboration
with the China State Administration of Forestry and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as well as contributing
to numerous international meeting and workshops on pest data sharing and phytosanitary information responsibilities.
